This town is set along the Sonoma County coast.Home to about 1,000 people, Bodega Bay activities include the colorful Fisherman’s Festival in April marking the opening of the Salmon fishing season. There is an unofficial Clam Chowder Cookoff where the town’s restaurants compete for the honor of serving the best chowder. Beginning around Thanksgiving, take advantage of the opportunity to buy fresh-caught live crabs and lobsters right off fishing boats at the docks. The ten miles of coastline north of bodega bay to the Russian River's mouth at Jenner is all state park property. Visitors can park their cars and walk to the beaches and tide pools at any point. UC Davis has a marine laboratory on the ocean side. Bodega Baywas discovered by Don Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra while he was exploring the Northern California coastline in 1775. The drowsy little town, 65 miles north of San Francisco was discovered by Hollywood in the 1960s when Alfred Hitchcock decided it was the perfect locale for filming his atmospheric thriller "The Birds".
